Using a Stretch Stitch for Topstitching

To go along with our post of turning jeans into shorts, I wanted to show a few pictures of another pair of pants I converted. Instead of using the traditional yellow topstitching thread, this time I used a regular thread that matched the jeans. To give the stitch line that thick look I used my sewing machines stretch stitch feature. You can catch the tutorial on turning jeans into shorts here.

The best thing about using this type of stitch is that you don’t need a special needle or thread! Use the needle appropriate for the fabric and regular thread. The back and forth motion of this stitch will simulate the thickness of a topstitching thread.
